Au Hoi Lam

AU Hoi Lam is a local painter who graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong [M.F.A. (2004) & M.Phil. in Philosophy (2009)]. Her works are labour of love and craftsmanship, infused with her unique sensibilities and passions, and integrating minute details into a unified whole. Perhaps, like life itself, her paintings are best to be savoured and pondered over, instead of being analyzed in a rational manner. Her works are collected by Hong Kong Museum of Art and private collectors. Recent exhibitions included When Words are Sweet: Paintings by Au Hoi Lam (Central Library, Hong Kong 2006), Reversing Horizons: Artist Reflections of the Hong Kong Handover 10th Anniversary (MOCA Shanghai, Shanghai 2007), Definitions of Time: Paintings by Au Hoi lam (Edge Gallery, Hong Kong 2010), Au Hoi Lam Reading Room (Muji Atelier, Hong Kong 2010), Lui Chun Kwong. You Are Here, I am not. (Osage Kwun Tong, Hong Kong 2010) etc.

  1. well done in the background and achievements of this artist.but i suggest you can pay more attention on description's arrangement. firstly, you could state different information about this artist separately in the form of question-answer style. it is more convenient for readers to browse. secondly, i suggest you could do more on personal feeling, for example, after read their works, what are your feelings, or otherwise, you could mention what you learn from it and reflections of this works. thirdly, you could also state which work you like the most, and the reason why you want to interview them. it is probably to have a good interaction with the readers.

And what is her philosophy? Why did you pick her as your research target? I think you can think of all these questions.

And you mentioned that she had finished a master degree in philosophy. So what made her engage in arts? Is there any relation between philosophy and her art? I wish to know all these during your presentation.

It would be inspiring if you can point out the special things that make her stand out from various artist in Hong Kong.

  4. Hello, I am Yvonne. I found out that you have done a lot of research on the artist's background which let people understand her more before seeing her artwork. The poster above made me interested to have a look of what kind of artwork she creates. You mentioned she does painting and I am curious about what type is it?
I think you can do more research on her artwork, for example, I will want to know more about what inspire her and what is the message she want to give to the audiences through her work, if any.
Also, the poster above about the exhibition “the perfect circle”(重修舊好), the artists are standing in front of an old building with a smiley face, which I think matches the theme.
